The Green Apple Day of Service theme on 2017 was “Sustainability Movement”. This year, more than 50 volunteers from Dar al-Handassa & LGBC jointed efforts to raise environmental awareness across eight educational institutions, including public schools and orphanages.
As a volunteer at the LGBC, al-Mimariya participated in the first Green Apple Day of Service, which took place at Al-Kawthar School, Beirut, on the 27th of October. The day started with an interactive presentation covering the main environmental & sustainability aspects encountered daily. The presentation was followed by hands-on activities aimed at involving students and motivating them become future green leaders. These activities included:
- Building a recycling station for metal, paper & plastic from reused metal cans, paper rolls and plastic bottles respectively.
- Transforming old tires into seating units.
By the end of the day, the students provided a brief presentation about what they had learned during the day and received a certificate of participation.
