Riyad, Saudi Arabia, 2002
The main concept of this project was to design the house around two oases of landscape and water. The formal court is the green heart of the house, changing with the seasons and the light of day.
The pool court has the family zone around it, providing it with privacy and protection. Both courts capture the cool night air, which cools the house during the day. The orientation, the courtyards, the insulated thick walls all reduce heat gain.
Solar panels and sewage treatment plants that recycle wastewater, all aid in the energy conservation and energy efficiency of this project.
The house also accommodates the change with time. With the formal areas and upstairs bedrooms closed, the five-bedroom house becomes a single bedroom apartment around the family pool.
